The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr: A Quick Book Review

This is such a fun book! I don’t remember where I picked it up, but what drew me to get it, was the fact it is a Sherlock Holmes mystery, or shall we say, “A Further Adventure of Sherlock Holmes”.

The author was approached by the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and asked to do the work. It is written from the perspective of Doctor Watson and involves mysterious deaths which are taking place in Holyroodhouse, in Scotland, a familial home of the British Royal Family at the time of Queen Victoria.

Watson and Holmes, along with Sherlock’s brother Mycroft, head to the large and deemed haunted location and soon become entrenched in the story of the Italian secretary of Mary Queen of Scots, who was murdered three hundred years earlier.

The excitement rises as other questionable deaths and events come to the surface and Sherlock and Doctor Watson leap into the fray with all the passion and intrigue of a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle original.

If you are Sherlock fan, you will love this!
